Customer Reviews for Alliant

  • March 22, 2024 |

Their CD rates are reasonable and their Visa rewards is very good at 2.5% on all purchases up to 10K/month.
Their customer service is polite and helpful.
However, their IT department must need some serious help due to the occasionally buggy software.
We had a transfer to an account with a major bank fail due to a bug in Alliant's software. They attempted to transfer the money to an account that had been closed the prior year. How they got that old account number is a mystery since I (proveably) did not provide them with it. They proceeded to charge a penalty for their own error. They did rescind the charge after I showed them proof that the account number used in the transfer was correct, even though they actually tried to send it to an old closed account. Both the receiving bank and Alliant had emails and notifications to me showing the correct account number, yet they somehow tried to send the money to a closed account number.
This sort of system glitch is alarming, especially when we are talking about a financial institution.
I am considering contacting the NCUA to report this error.
Other than the occasional web site issues and this transfer issue, they've been a relatively good financial institution.

I joined this bank and went through the process of applying for a HELOC. Everything seemed to be going well with only the paperwork needing to be signed and when I contacted them about having a POA and therefore needing the paperwork altered so the notary could sign off on it Alliant just dropped me in the process completely. The people I had been in contact with did not return my calls and the time period elapsed without my completing the transaction. It was a total waste of my time. When I called the bank to have someone explain why this happened they could not offer me any reason for it so I closed my account

The savings rate is a draw barely, but you really need to think twice before joining. I've been a member for 12 years and cannot get approved for anything even with good credit. Plus, I am told that they do a hard credit pull when you apply to open, even if you are just opening for savings.

On Credit Card. Crooks got paid through "PayPal" for a non-delivered item. Alliant insisted I go through PayPal to get a chargeback. The crooks used a no-longer-existing fake account to receive money. So PayPal could not find the payment. Alliant knew where the money went, that it had been charged to my account, and that there was no delivery.

I went through all procedures as I worked as a bank regulator for decades. NO CHARGEBACK. Kept insisting PayPal had to find what crooks erased before I could get my relatively small amount. Which fraudsters had prevented.

I was a decade-long customer and the amount was not that great. Cost Alliant in employee/executive time much more than the amount to justify why crooks should get away with it. Even as a goodwill measure, chargeback does not come out of credit union funds. Blowback would have been on ME, not Alliant. Credit Unions are "owned" by members, not payees.

If you have a question then they have an answer. "Go to the branch." May be OK if you live in Chicago, but I do not.
