Jeff Flake, the Republican Senator from Arizona, made a stunning speech before the Senate this afternoon. The full text of Flake’s speech is here.
Flake explained to his Senate colleagues that he could not as a decent human continue to support a President who had proven himself indecent, and then proceeded to announce that he will not seek re-election in 2018.
Obviously, this announcement raises so many issues that we cannot even begin to fathom.
First, can we believe that Senator Flake (and Tennessee Senator Bob Corker) really didn’t see the multitude of illnesses in this man when failed to oppose his campaign or monarchy until now (and, in the case of Corker, became a campaign confidant)?
I think the answer is no.
Second, why do Senators Flake and Corker feel compelled to remove themselves from re-election to speak freely about the President’s illnesses? Why don’t they have the spines to try to fix the situation from within government, either through advocating the use of the 25th Amendment or serving as intermediaries between the people that they represent and the military which may need to take control here?
To me, it is not clear whether Senator Flake - and Senator Corker - are flakes at all. Flake gave a brilliant speech and he freed himself from the Republican apparatus so that he may spend the next 14 months trying to bring forward an action under the Constitution to normalize this country as quickly as possible.
It is now increasingly clear that there are tough days ahead for our country. I am just not sure how much longer the economy can continue in this overvalued state against this backdrop.

Flake and Corker only told the truth about Trump because they knew that they would not be re-elected.
