Tow to Runway -- Conserve Tons of Fuel Each Flight

It is hard to believe that there is a sure and simple way for airlines to save fuel and reduce emissions significantly and that almost no one is doing anything about it. All that needs to be done is to tow each airplane to the runway.

Not only will airports become much less noisy, but on average approximately 2 tons of fuel would be saved for each flight towed. When one considers how many flights there are per day in the United States and abroad, the fuel, cost, and emissions savings from introducing this change are enormous. How long will it take for this simple fix to happen?

The good news is that, as we speak, Virgin Atlantic (anyone surprised?) is testing out towing of its planes to the runways.
