CNN was a class act. Their coverage of the first Gulf War, Tiannamen Square and all of the major events of the 80s and 90s was spectacular.
Today, they have the remnants of news network. They still have some fantastic reporters, such as Christiane Amanpour. Even in the Mumbai attacks where Sarah Sidner and Nick Robertson are reporting, they are able to get some fantastic reporters in the field. Unfortunately, their coverage is overwhelmed by children at the controls. They have left people without any perspective to read teleprompters in Atlanta and to move back and forth between important breaking news (such as a live commando raid of a major hotel that has been taken by terrorists) and Joe's Thanksgiving dinner in Idaho or the shopping mall in Iowa.
CNN was a great news organization that became an economic casualty of the internet bubble and burst (it never should have been bought and destroyed by AOL).
Let's hope that the economic casualties of the curent downturn are fewer and have less of an impact on our day to day life.

I watched CNN News everyday and I like the coverage given on major world issues. The terrorist attack in bombay covered by Sarah Sidner was excellent. Recently Amampour interview with Mosad Hussain was also very interesting in the sense that he was able to prevent some suicide bombers by giving informations to Israelis security organisations. He also pointed out that that it was the concept of Jirhad in the Koran that motivitated the terrorist to act.Moderate Muslims in the middle east east should condemn acts of terrorist especially when innocent muslims civilians are being killed daily by their muslim brothers.
