Here are some reasons why this may be happening:
1) CNBC is trying to improve its ratings in the wake of coming competition from Fox.
2) Michelle is trying to improve her ratings and get a full time gig being on TV after 6 AM in the morning (she is usually on much earlier).
3) This dramatic run up in the stock market is really that exciting.
4) GE's stock is at a 7 year high.
5) Sitting next to Mark Haines is really exciting.
Any other explanations?

The government shut down continues on this day with no real news to report about progress on the negotiation. Apparently, the Congress, and our President feel willing to take us over the edge fiscally in order to prove some sort of a point.
Yes, America spends more than it takes in for tax revenues. Yes, some programs can get trimmed. Yes, the President must lead here. A dialogue must take place.
Playing Russian roulette with the 401 k plans of millions of Americans makes no sense in my minds' eye. All of the members of Congress took an oath to support, and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign, and domestic. Currently, I really cannot distinguish the difference between foreign enemies, and our domestic leadership.
America wants resolution on this matter sooner rather than later. Many people who staunchly support ideals associated with the Republican Party will not do so in the future if this negotiation drags, and they lose retirement money in the stock market as a result. All the standing and reading of "Green Eggs and Ham" in the world won't bring back necessary votes for a very, very long time. Not even Dr. Seuss will could remedy the blunders committed if this thing continues.
The last election produced an outcome. The President was elected. Governor Romney lost. It made me sad. But, I accept it.
Now ya'll play ball! And please don't make me switch parties for the rest my life. I am not alone. Many like me feel the Congress did this before, and it gained nothing. Now, we're trying that fiasco again.
Let me remind our elected officials that George Bush Jr. spent like there was no tomorrow. And, he did little during the ensuing financial crisis at the end of his second term. So, plenty of blame exists to go around. Take the silver spoons out of your mouths, listen to each other, and take us forward. Leaders need to lead us in a safe direction, and that means NOT DRIVING AMERICA OVER A FISCAL CLIFF!!!

Perhaps the leadership of our country should fight in a duel over the current budget debate. Would anyone fire away their shot?
One of the most famous personal conflicts in American history, the BurrâHamilton duel (a draw duel) arose from a long-standing political and personal bitterness that had developed between the two men over the course of several years. Tensions reached a boiling point with Hamilton's journalistic defamation of Burr's character during the 1804 New York gubernatorial race in which Burr was a candidate. Fought at a time when the practice was being outlawed in the northern United States, the duel had immense political ramifications. Burr, who survived the duel, was indicted for murder in both New York and New Jersey, though these charges were later either dismissed or resulted in acquittal. The harsh criticism and animosity directed toward him following the duel brought an end to his political career. The Federalist Party, already weakened by the defeat of John Adams in the Presidential Election of 1800, was further weakened by Hamilton's death.
The duel was the final skirmish of a long conflict between Democratic-Republicans and Federalists. The conflict began in 1791 when Burr captured a United States Senate seat from Philip Schuyler, Hamilton's father-in-law, who would have supported Federalist policies. (Hamilton was Secretary of the Treasury at the time.) When the Electoral College deadlocked in the election of 1800, Hamilton's maneuvering in the House of Representatives caused Thomas Jefferson to be named president and Burr vice-president.[citation needed] In 1800, the Philadelphia Aurora printed extracts from a pamphlet Hamilton had earlier published, "Letter from Alexander Hamilton, Concerning the Public Conduct and Character of John Adams, Esq. President of the United States," a document highly critical of Adams,[2] which had actually been written by Hamilton but intended only for private circulation. Some have claimed that Burr leaked the document, but there is no clear evidence for this, nor that Hamilton held him responsible.
Hamiltonâs animosity toward Burr was severe and well-documented in personal letters to his friend and compatriot James McHenry. The following quotation from one of these letters on January 4, 1801, exemplifies his bitterness: âNothing has given me so much chagrin as the Intelligence that the Federal party were thinking seriously of supporting Mr. Burr for president. I should consider the execution of the plan as devoting the country and signing their own death warrant. Mr. Burr will probably make stipulations, but he will laugh in his sleeve while he makes them and will break them the first moment it may serve his purpose."[3]
In a more extensive letter written shortly afterward, Hamilton details the many charges he has against Burr, calling him a "profligate, a voluptuary in the extremeâ, that he corruptly served the views of the Holland Land Company while a member of Legislature, criticized Burrâs military commission and accused him of resigning under false pretenses, and many more serious accusations.[3]
When it became clear that Jefferson would drop Burr from his ticket in the 1804 election, the Vice President ran for the governorship of New York instead. Hamilton campaigned vigorously against Burr, who was running as an independent, causing him to lose to Morgan Lewis, a Democratic-Republican endorsed by Hamilton.
Both men had been involved in duels in the past. Hamilton had been a principal in 10 shot-less duels[clarification needed] prior to his fatal encounter with Burr, including duels with William Gordon (1779), Aedanus Burke (1790), John Francis Mercer (1792â1793), James Nicholson (1795), James Monroe (1797), and Ebenezer Purdy/George Clinton (1804). He also served as a second to John Laurens in a 1779 duel with General Charles Lee and legal client John Auldjo in a 1787 duel with William Pierce.[4] In addition, Hamilton claimed to have had one previous honor dispute with Burr;[5] Burr claimed there were two.[6]
Additionally, Hamilton's son, Philip, was killed in a November 23, 1801 duel with George I. Eacker, initiated after Philip and his friend Richard Price engaged in "hooliganish" behavior in Eacker's box at the Park Theatre. This was in response to a speech, critical of Hamilton, that Eacker had made on July 3, 1801. Philip and his friend both challenged Eacker to duels when he called them "damned rascals."[7] After Price's duel (also at Weehawken) resulted in nothing more than four missed shots, Hamilton advised his son to delope (throw away his fire). However, after both Philip and Eacker stood shotless for a minute after the command "present", Philip leveled his pistol, causing Eacker to fire, mortally wounding Philip and sending his shot awry. This duel is often cited as having a tremendous psychological impact on Hamilton in the context of the Hamilton-Burr duel.

It seems the budgetary mess temporarily subsides as the strategy to accommodate the Republican Tea Party stalwarts fades from memory. Did the failed strategy effectively elect yet another President from the Democratic Party? If the Republican Party continues to employ the failed strategies of the past in the budgetary arena, then, it's game over!
How can the party of Lincoln change preconceived notions, dispel myths, separate fact from innuendo, appeal to a broader electoral base, garner the vote of the hard working immigrants, maintain the lead on defense issues, and promote education? It simple actually! Quite frankly, the Republican Party political leadership parades around everywhere in a suit, and tie as if they don't ever go to the bathroom just like everyone else. They need a complete makeover.
Many people attend church regularly both Democrat, and Republican, so the God thing shouldn't enter into any political platform to placate some right wing southern Republicans who want to somehow marry the church with the state. It's in the Constitution of the United States. Get over that one.
Take a think about abortion too. Roe vs. Wade happened in about 1970. Colin Powell said it eloquently several years ago at the Republican Convention. Women possess the right to chose, right, wrong or indifferent, get over that one too!
Unite on tax reform. Unite on issues which promote trade. Unite on immigration. Show compassion for the poor. Demonstrate caring! Has anyone in the Congress ever dealt with the Department of Labor? Does anyone ever work there? Try calling them sometime, and getting in touch with the prescribed case manager. Better yet, have them actually do their job correctly the first time. It's another failed entity which needs major revision. The ineptitude of the Department of Labor merely substantiates the fact that the bureaucracy of another federal program like "Obamacare" will certainly earn the angst of the voting populace in time.
The egg faced Republican Party leadership needs to reacquaint itself with humanity. Why not do something novel like approve THC free medical marijuana in all states of the land? Why should my very poor friend who lives on $14,000 per year have to move to Colorado to obtain this THC free oil for her child? Her child suffers from infantile spasms, epilepsy, blindness, doesn't walk, and doesn't talk. Scott Walker will not get another vote or contribution from me until he changes his posture on medical/and THC free hemp in the state of Wisconsin. Why does this travesty exist? You politicians call yourselves the representatives of the people. Yet, America currently perceives the party of Lincoln as merely a puppet of the rich.
It's clear we're not all equal in America. Certainly, mistakes get made everyday by both political parties. Yet, can't politicians put partisanship aside, and demonstrate good faith for the betterment of mankind? The Republican Party has much to do to win the trust of America if it hopes to elect a President. Greek Republicans like Rince Priebe certainly don't hurt the cause, but much more needs accomplishment. I want leadership that remembers those who fell at Gettysburg. I want leadership to emulate, and live the words of Lincoln at Gettysburg. I want the Republican Party to reinvent itself.
We need a new birth of freedom as spoken of in the Gettysburg Address. We need dedicated leadership to promote the cause of/by/for the American People!
"in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. In 2014 hospitals HMO's will expand their facilities. They will waste money on unnecessary aesthetics such as waterfalls, and large tanks of exotic fish in their newly built hospitals. The business of health will look like art, and health costs will continue to rise.
The US stock market will continue to roar!!!
The President of the United States will keep us out of an overt war.
The Republican party will scramble to gain approval of the American public, and dismally fail if the Tea Party continues to impede progress in this great nation.
Michelle Caruso Cabrera will smile at the camera. And, I will sing many happy songs, even an Italian ARIA!!!
