After a long campaign to find the new CEO of GM, Ed Whitacre Jr. has decided that he is the best candidate and appointed himself. I wrote here previously how unqualified Whitacre is to run GM.
After weeks of experts guessing who GM could pick to breathe innovation into the company (recently, many analysts predicted that Apple COO Tim Cook would join), it seems that GM has opted for continued incompetence.
This is very pleasing given that we are all shareholders.

I think we need to give him a chance. He can't be any worse than who was running the company before.

He wants to be credited with breathing life back into the industry because he knows that public perception is that he can't be any worse. He took all of the ingenuity out of the telecom industry.
