General

Marcus in the online division of Goldman Sachs and was purchased from GE Capital a decade ago.  

Advantages

  • Savings and CD products are generally very competitive.   Balance requirements are low and the bank's online savings product doesn't have any fees. 
  • The bank offers 24/7 customer service which is generally considered outstanding.

Disadvantages

  • As one of the largest bank in the US, Goldman Sachs should be much more proactive about addressing the climate crisis, but it has continued to heavily fund fossil fuels.
  • Marcus doesn't offer its customers ATM cards or enable mobile check deposit, making it basically impossible to use without a corresponding account at a brick-and-mortar bank.
